From lewis carroll's through the looking-glass (1872): 'the rule is, jam tomorrow and jam yesterday - but never jam today'. The words parody what is said to children when denying them jam as a treat: 'you can't have jam today, you had it yesterday' or 'you can have it tomorrow'. The nonsensical point is that tomorrow always becomes today so that the 'rule' or promise is meaningless. In the original, the 'rule' is one of the conditions offered to alice by the white queen when discussing her employment as a ladies' maid.
And here's another fact!
In the early 1940s, the FCC assigned television’s Channel 1 to mobile services (like two-way radios in taxis) but did not re-number the other channel assignments.
